Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call on Him [for salvation] while He is near. Let the wicked leave (behind) his way; And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion (mercy) on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:6-8
Do you think like God thinks?
Salvation is near, and God can still be found. Please consider, there will be a day when He is not going to be around. People will look for God and not be able to find Him. It sounds so scary, I don’t want to be around for that time; and I hope none of my loved are either. Other than that truth, I want to share something I received while I read these scriptures, which I had never thoroughly thought of before. First, I saw distinctions between the wicked and the unrighteous.
- the wicked have ways (actions, behavior, reactions, habits)
- the unrighteous have thoughts (ideas, imaginations)
Secondly, I noticed that Isaiah made a distinction between ‘our Lord’ and ‘our God’. Isaiah stated that the Lord will have mercy on the repented sinner, and God will forgive them. The third thing I noticed is that God has righteous thoughts. I make this inference because in the scriptures context, God is comparing himself to the wicked and the unrighteous. If the unrighteous have wrong thoughts, and need to change; then God has much higher thoughts: righteous thoughts.
In Latin the word righteous, broken down in Latin means : correct and manner. So God wants us to think in the correct way. What is the correct way to think? We can conclude this by knowing God personally, we know that God is love, He is light, He is holy and He is Just. The bible also says that we are to keep our minds focused on certain things like: things which are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report and on things of virtue, or worthy of praise and honor.
So, basically if we dwell on things opposite of these; we need to change our thoughts (repent). If we are being unholy, unloving, unjust or unfair, even in the secret places of our minds- God wants us to know today; to turn around. He will forgive us for all of our sinful behavior and thoughts but we first need to clean up our act, given that we admit to our own truth.
The scripture also says, My thoughts are not as yours: God’s thoughts are much better than ours. When we see sinners, God sees souls to be saved. When we see the homeless, God sees homeowners and suppliers. When we see worldly people, God sees holy people. When we see prostitutes, God sees evangelists. When we see drug pushers and drug addicts, God sees business investors and pastors. And even when we condemn the murderers, God sees the potential in them to be apostles, just like Saint Paul. All it takes is a decision to change (repent). God’s thoughts are higher than ours, while we think thoughts which fall short of God’s awesome splendor and glory- He thinks good, wonderful and perfect thoughts towards us.
Lord Jesus, may we continue to grow in you and develop your vision for this world and its people. I pray for your joy to abound in us, even when we see negative situations. I pray for strength when we are weak. And riches, for the poor. I ask you Lord, to clean our minds of worthless thoughts, thoughts that may open doors to sin in our lives and those thoughts that may give the enemy power into our lives. I pray for salvation for people who have not yet noticed that you God are available, and I pray for those who keep pushing you aside- may they know that one day you will no longer be accessible. In Jesus name, Amen.
