Devotional 11/27

And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. John 9:1-3

The eyes are useless when the mind is blind.

According to scripture God allows blindness in our lives, so that He can glorify Himself. This man did not choose to be blind, he was born blind. It was not caused by sin; but he was still living in darkness. The state of blindness is the state or condition of being unable to see because of injury, disease or congenital conditions: it is also the lack of perception, awareness or judgment, or the state of ignorance.

If we put ourselves in the place of the blind man, we can relate to walking through life in the dark. We have areas where we are blinded too, places where stones make us trip and roadblocks challenge our walk with God and with people. Inevitably things will happen in life and have us wondering, ‘how did I get here?‘ or ‘why did this happen to me?‘. But like this man’s blindness: some things are orchestrated by God so that He can show us (and others) HIS glory and power. See the source image

God is a realist, He knows we have issues. And He wants us to see things as He does. Some of us are spiritually blind, and some of us have a few blind spots! A blind spot is an area, which you think is not there… but it is. We may be blind to what is really making us fall, or why we are the way we are (and have such a hard time changing) but Jesus knows our condition. He does not want us to be concerned with why we are blind; He is concerned about displaying the works of God in us.

God wants glory from our lives. When people can see us and say: you’re different… what happened? It is His desire that our response is, Jesus Christ did a work in me, I was blind, but now I can seeEveryone knew this man was blind, but they also saw that something had obviously changed!

Could there be something God is doing and you are blinded to the fact? Could you be undervaluing your life because you are focused on the wrong things? Could you be angry with yourself because you are seeing things from the past and not the NOW? The good thing is that God wants to revert our blindness, and give us new sight! Sometimes life happens and it hardens our hearts, which makes us blind. Or our upbringing was not what we chose for ourselves, and it made us blind. Or maybe you don’t have any good role models around you, so you can’t see things clearly. But one thing is for sure, the Lord can open your eyes! He wants to do a new thing, He wants to display His glory in you!

We all have areas which we cannot change with our own strength: trust that the Lord will open your eyes to see the path He has for you. Tell God today, Lord there are some things in my life which cause me to walk like a blind man but I invite you to glorify Yourself in my life.

Let’s pray:

Most High God, you are awesome and there is no other God besides you! I present each person’s place of blindness, and ask you to give us sight. May we no longer be blind sighted as the perfect prey for the devil. You are Alpha and Omega, you know the end from the beginning. And I know you know us better than we know ourselves, give us new eyes with which to see. And new understanding with which to walk in. In Jesus name, Amen.

  1. The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes. – [Psalm 118:22]
