Devotional 1/27

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. Matthew‬ ‭11:29-30‬ ‭

When you put it in God’s hands,
He will lift the weight.

It’s good to know that the God we serve does not sleep or slumber: He doesn’t miss a beat. The God we serve is fully awake and willing to do life with us at all times, if we yoke ourselves to Him. The word Yoked means to be joined to; so if we are joined to Jesus we will find rest for our souls.

The Lord tells us to take on His yoke so that we can find rest. God has a pace, He walks at a steady and consistent speed, unlike human beings who tend to be restless, anxious or and/or hasty. Most of our lives are spent chasing after dreams and goals, attending our loved ones physically, emotionally and financially and engulfed in our money making responsibilities! For most of us, the best agenda cannot keep up with us because life hits us with new and random things each day. We long for vacations to relieve some stress, but vacations don’t deliver. At the end of it all, we find ourselves tired, overwhelmed and overworked.

Our God doesn’t rest or sleep, He is always working. He does not get tired of our constant need for His help, our continuous and often times repetitive petitions. And He doesn’t walk out on us, when he gets tired of the same story we have. Our God doesn’t have the same issues you and I have! He doesn’t deal with us as humans do, or do not. He doesn’t wear the many layers of physical exhaustion, mental fatigue or emotional burdens.  Imagine being an ox, and being held together at the neck with another ox. There’s no way that you can outrun the other ox and there is also no way that you can stand still! The Lord is the ox with who we are yoked. He is the good shepherd, the mighty in battle, He is the prince of peace and He is Jehovah Nissi, the one who raises up a standard against the enemy. There is no fight which we will lose, when we are yoked with the King of kings.   He fights from a place of victory and all power, who can come against God and win? NOBODY.

Remember, whatever you are facing today…. you can be joined to Jesus Christ. When we are yoked to Jesus, He directs us when we are stuck: He holds us up, when we have no more strength to move forward: and He pulls us in His path when our humanity can go on no more. The Lord gives us grace to move forward and to do our part, and He also gives us grace to trust Him with the things out of our control.

Let’s pray:

Lord God almighty and powerful Redeemer. We give you glory and praise Jesus, for being the faithful God who carries us when we are weak. Thank you for your strength and might. I ask you today to give us the wisdom, strength and strategy we need to be productive and effective workers in your kingdom. I ask you to lift the weights from our shoulders, and help us with all our responsibilities and tasks at hand. I thank you for being the God who doesn’t get tired of working. And for being the God who finds us trustworthy of all that you have blessed us with. I pray for the hardworking parents, the workers and the ministry leaders who courageously rise up each morning to work. Bless and strengthen them my God. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
