Do you wish life had a rewind button?
I have considered this to no avail because we can’t change. Life doesn’t work backwards; it always moves forward. Regret could be any occurrence related to looking back and thinking, we could have made a better decision at the time. Consequently, we perceive life from a place of loss and fault (guilt).
Living in a place of regret affects our soul in every area. The soul is the seat of our intellect, will and emotions. Regret is another paradigm or stronghold which immobilizes us and prevents us from happiness (Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology). It holds us captive in desiring something that will never be; a false and hopeless illusion! Therefore, we risk inviting confusion, indecision and insanity into our lives. The psychological effects of regret are anxiety, grief, anger, depression, frustration, self-hatred, self-disgust, dysphoria, delusion and indecision. Cognitive behavior therapists have said that regret subconsciously convinces people to life unfulfilled and safe lives by protecting them from the pain in taking risks. Having regrets can paralyze our lives by also, robbing us of focus, energy and time.
How do we defeat regret?
- Acknowledge that having regrets means that you’ve grown from who you were ‘back then’.
- Forgive Yourself for having made the choices you made.
- Accept the consequences that came with those choices.
- Learn from your mistakes.
- Affirm the new way you want to live from now on.
- Release the past to the Lord
- Trust that He works ALL things for our good!
If God has given you another day, you have another chance to do better!
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
2 Corinthians 7:10
Father God, thank you for extending your grace and love to us. Thank you for a new chance to do life on this day. I stand in the gap for those who may feel regret in their lives, may we use our past and failures as tools to build the futures we want. I plead the blood of Jesus over the hearts and minds of your children which may have been battling with these spirits of heaviness and the attacks of the familiar spirits which come along. We know that our actions affect everyone and everything around us, so I ask you to help us your children to make the right decisions moving forward. Increase our discernment wisdom and convictions. I ask you to activate the desire for us all to renew their minds and strengthen our faith and confidence in you so that we can refocus and recommit our time and energy into YOU and your kingdom. In the name of the Almighty Jesus who was slain for our freedom. Amen.
